Get to Know Garner, NC
Garner, like many cities and towns in the Triangle, grew up around the railroad.
Originally called Garner's Station, this area was a bustling town by the 1880s and by the 1920s was home to US-70, the first paved road in the entire state. Garner continued to grow during the mid-to-late 20th century with the development of Research Triangle Park and major highways around the area. Today, more than 28,000 people now call Garner home.
Despite Garner's rapid development, town planners keep residents connected through annual festivals, recreation programs and well-maintained parks. The historic downtown district along Main Street (where you can still see the railroad that started it all) continues to be a destination for local shopping and town-sponsored events.
