We Toot Our Horn for Raleigh!
We like to think of Raleigh as a musical city: We like to toot our own horn! But, really, we do have over 85 music venues too! Raleigh consistently wins accolades of all varieties and specialties. Our favorite one describes the people that you will meet here: In 2017, WalletHub claimed Raleigh to be #22 for most caring cities.
Why Raleigh Feels Like Two Cities in One
Fun Fact: Raleigh was one of the first planned cities for a capital and named after Sir Walter Raleigh. The original grid system of streets designed by Mr. William Christmas (he even has a cool name) were declared according to the eight original judicial districts. These surround the state capital and form the downtown area of Raleigh. Add to this the North Raleigh area, and you now have basically two cities in one. How many places do you know that can take claim to that fame?
North Raleigh has flair of its own with suburban lifestyle intermixed with the new North Hills area, where you can work, play and live all within a single building (or single block).
People Can't Get Enough of NC's Capital
Seriously, though, we love Raleigh for the universities (NC State as the main one in Raleigh plus many more), the Hurricanes NHL hockey team, the abundant green spaces and parks, the museums, golf courses, fantastic eateries and breweries and the extremely central location to beach and mountains.
Raleigh is also home to the NC State Fair that has been in operation since 1853. As the capital city of NC, Raleigh wins award after award for many different things. There are many reasons to call Raleigh a destination city. Many come, and not so many leave!

Must-Visit Raleigh Attractions
Raleigh is home to the state's biggest and best tourist attractions, which include many museums. If you find yourself in the downtown area, be sure to tour the NC Museum of Art, NC Museum of History, NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Marbles Kids Museum, NC Museum of Contemporary Art and the City of Raleigh Museum.
Top-Tier Education
In addition to NC State University (NCSU), Raleigh is home to Campbell Law School, Meredith College, Saint Augustine's University, William Peace University, Wake Technical Community College and many more.
Arts, Music, and Entertainment
Where do we begin? Walnut Creek Amphitheatre and Red Hat Amphitheatre are the biggest of those 85 music venues that we mentioned earlier. If you prefer the theater and the symphony, be sure to stop by Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts or Raleigh Little Theatre. Don't forget to visit PNC Arena for sports, concerts and more.
Raleigh Parks and Recreation
We have so many parks and trails that it's hard to know where to start! Stop and smell the roses at the JC Raulston Arboretum at NCSU, take a hike through William B. Umstead State Park and ride the pedal boats or carousel at Pullen Park. For adventures in the "great outdoors," be sure to visit Yates Mill County Park, Falls Lake State Recreation Area and Lake Crabtree County Park.
